A kick-off event will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 to begin planning for the 2010 Ceres Relay of Life fundraiser of the American Cancer Society.
Light hors d'oeuvres will be served at the 6:30 p.m. gathering at the Ceres American Legion Hall, corner of Ninth and Lawrence streets.
Participation in the kick-off allows teams to sign up early, receive information and team packets. Starting early is important as it allows teams adequate time to raise money and allows time for teams to sign up participants and formulate their plans.
The 5th annual Relay is scheduled for May 22-23, 2010.
Invited are individuals or business leaders interested in participating in the fun family event that focuses on celebrating survivors, remembering loved ones and raising money for the fight against cancer.
The 2010 Relay still has openings for volunteers at all levels and is looking to grow more team participation from the community level.
"Our Ceres community has been extremely successful in raising important funds for the American Cancer Society and has a great time with this event," said Event Chair Kandy Thornhill.
The theme this year's Relay is 'Creating a World with More Birthdays', according to Sheila Doberenz, a American Cancer Society partner.
All are invited for a fun evening of life-saving significance. For more information, call Thornhill at 765-9943 or 551-1937; or call co-chairman Lem Klein at 968-9977.
