A 23-year-old Ceres man spent Christmas in jail after he allegedly drove recklessly on his motorcycle and then led police on a high-speed chase.

At 3:13 p.m., Officer Nick Welsh was patrolling the area of Mitchell Road and Mitchell Plaza when he observed a reckless rider of a red Honda motorcycle headed northbound on Mitchell Road. Officer Welsh attempted to catch up to the rider who continued driving erratically in the area of Mitchell and Hatch roads.

Officer Welsh saw motorcyclist Jullian Vega Martinez was off his motorcycle but then climbed back on and fled eastbound on Hatch Road, triggering a police pursuit. Martinez stopped the motorcycle on Baldwin Road near Hatch Road where he was arrested at gunpoint.

Martinez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of evading police in a vehicle and driving on the wrong side of the road while evading police.
