A 29-year-old Ceres was arrested and his car impounded for a month following his antics behind the wheel early Monday in downtown Ceres.
Officer Charles Rushing was on patrol at 12:12 p.m., coming down Second Street when he saw a Cadillac CTS speed around the corner onto northbound Second Street from Magnolia Street where several pedestrians were. The rear of the vehicle slid outward as it appeared out of control.
Officer Rushing slowed to prepare a U-turn to get behind the Cadillac to stop driver Sean Anthony Pellegrino, 29, of Ceres. But Pellegrino came to a stop next to Officer Rushing and yelled profanities at him and continued northbound.
Officer Rushing flipped a U-turn to go after Pellegrino, who in turn made an evasive U-turn, sped off and made a fast turn onto westbound Magnolia Street. Officer Rushing gave chase with activated lights and siren. Pellegrino promptly pulled over, stepped out of his car and again began yelling profanities at Officer Rushing, who then pointed his Taser at the driver and called for backup. When other Ceres Police arrived, Pellegrino was handcuffed.
He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of reckless driving and delaying an officer in the performance of duties. Pellegrino’s vehicle was towed with a vehicle seizure warrant later written to impound it for 30 days due to his reckless behavior.
