The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating remains of a fetus discovered in a dumpster outside of a business in the 800 block of S. Ninth Street Monday afternoon.
The discovery was made at approximately 3:40 p.m. First-responders discovered what appeared to be the remains of a fetus. The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was called in to investigate along with the coroner’s office.
The Sheriff’s Office is in the process of questioning a person of interest in the case.
An autopsy will determine whether the remains are those of a fetus or birthed child, and, if so, to assess the gestational age.
