A 27-year-old Modesto driver who sped in the wrong lane past Ceres Police officers as they were engaged in a traffic stop, was pursued and later arrested for DUI.

The incident happened early Saturday morning at 2:49 a.m. Officer Lydia Prieto was assisting another officer on a vehicle stop in the area of Service and Crows Landing roads when a Ford Mustang sped past them traveling in the wrong lanes of traffic. Officer Prieto caught up to the driver and conducted a traffic stop in the intersection of Service Road and Farm Supply Drive. Driver Fernando Martinez Garcia showed obvious signs of being under the influence of alcohol. A DUI investigation was given to Garcia and he failed field sobriety tests. Garcia was arrested for DUI and provided a breath sample nearly double the legal limit.

Garcia was booked in the county jail.
