A 28-year-old Fresno man wanted to face charges was arrested in Ceres during a Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 8 car stop and found with ammunition he wasn’t allowed to carry.

At approximately 3:50 p.m. Ceres Police Officer Josiah Mardirosian was patrolling the area of Herndon Road near River Road when he stopped Jose Avila who was driving a Lincoln Continental. In the parking lot of Mancini Park, Avila provided a false name to the officer but his true identity was made through a quick investigation.

Avila was on felony probation for being a felon in possession of a firearm and had a felony warrant for his arrest. Avila was arrested for the warrant and a new charge of providing a false name to a police office.

A search of the Lincoln turned up a live round of ammunition, which Avila cannot legally possess. While being booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, officers found on him drug paraphernalia and a white crystalline substance suspected to nr methamphetamine.
