An officer suspected two people of stealing pallets from behind the Kmart store on Hatch Road on Friday and stopped to investigate.

The driver of the suspicious black Ford Expedition, David Rice, 51, of Modesto, was pulled over at 11:58 a.m. and was on probation and searchable. The officer made a search of the vehicle and located a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun on the driver's seat. Rice was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and probation violation. Also arrested was Andrea Andres, 38, of Modesto, charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
