Two young Ceres men face serious charges in court following their arrest during a Friday evening traffic stop made by a Ceres Police sergeant.
Sgt. Vince Hooper was patrolling the area of Suffolk Drive and Boothe Road at 11:10 p.m. when he saw an Acura TL speeding with headlights off. Hooper pulled over the car in the 3400 block of Suffolk Drive and conducted a traffic stop. Driver Oscar Nava-Navarro, 22, of Ceres, got out of the car and began walking away but was quickly detained. At the same time passenger Ezequiel Arreola, 20, of Ceres, got out and had to be taken to the ground after failing to obey commands.
Arreola was found with a live 9mm round in his pocket and a search of the vehicle turned up a stolen Glock handgun underneath the seat where Arreola had been sitting. The handgun had a high-capacity magazine loaded with live rounds.
Arreola was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct/public intoxication, possession of a stolen loaded firearm and possession of a loaded firearm in public.
Officer Charles Lord-Huff arrived on scene and administered a field sobriety test for Nava-Navarro since he appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested for DUI, and later submitted a breath sample that showed he was over twice the legal limit for an adult to drive.
Nava-Navarro and Arreola were booked into the Public Safety Center.
