A 30-year-old Turlock man was jailed early Thursday after he zipped past a Ceres Police officer at a fast rate of speed on Highway 99.
The driver, Bradley Smith, 30, of Turlock, not only led that officer on a chase but also was allegedly intoxicated.
The incident began at midnight, Dec. 19 at when Ceres Police Officer Charles Lord-Huff was traveling southbound Highway 99 near the Hatch Road onramp and a white- Toyota Camry sped past him. Officer Lord-Huff attempted to pull Smith but he ignored the lights and siren and a pursuit was on. Near the Faith Home Road exit in Keyes, Smith yielded and a high-risk stop was conducted. As Smith was being arrested, Officer Lord-Huff suspected he had been drinking which prompted a DUI investigation. A breath sample showed that he was over the legal limit to drive.
Smith was booked on charges of DUI and evading a peace office officer.
