Man booked for trying to break into church

A 35-year-old Ceres man was arrested Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 17 after he allegedly tried to break into a church on Hatch Road.

At 2:03 p.m., Ceres Police Officer Matthew Johnson was summoned to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2607 Hatch Road, for a report that a man was attempting to break into the building. The suspect fled after breaking a glass door. Officer Johnson located the subject, Shane Dimter, 35, of Ceres. After the investigation, Dimter was arrested for trespassing and felony vandalism and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
