Herman Jones, 36, of Modesto was arrested for auto theft and possession of a stolen vehicle during an early Friday traffic stop in Ceres.

At 12:53 a.m., Ceres Police Sgt. Aaron Pinon was traveling northbound on Highway 99 near the Hatch Road exit when he stopped Jones, who was in a white Ford F-150, for vehicle code violations. Jones pulled into the parking lot of the Chevron at 1501 Herndon Road. Sergeant Pinon saw there was no key in the ignition and dispatchers confirmed the vehicle was reported as stolen.

A records check revealed Jones was on parole and a parole violation was added to his charges. Jones was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
