A 50-year-old Modesto man with a history of running from police was unsuccessful when he tried fleeing Ceres Police during an attempted Saturday evening traffic stop.

At approximately 8:31 p.m., Ceres Police Officer Chrim Marquez was patrolling the area of Hatch Road near Morgan Road when she attempted to stop David Agundez who committed vehicle code violations in a Ford Fusion. Instead of pulling over Agundez accelerated with the officer in pursuit. The chase ended near the area of Pearson Avenue and Hatch Road when Agundez lost control on a turn from an alley onto Pearson Avenue and ran into a concrete ditch. Agundez ran from the disabled car but was apprehended on property in the 500 block of Hatch Road.

Through a records check, it was determined Agundez had a felony arrest warrant related to a prior case in which he fled from police in a vehicle. Agundez was also found to be on probation for evading police in a vehicle.

Agundez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of evading police in a vehicle, the felony warrant, resisting arrest and a probations violation.
