A 22-year-old Ceres man faces a number of charges after he ran a red light in front of an officer and failed to pull over during a pursuit which ended when he crashed into a backyard Monday evening.

Francisco Landavazo, 22, of Ceres, was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety for evading a peace officer, hit and run, child endangerment, and delaying a police officer in the performance of their duties.

The incident began at 11:53 p.m. when Officer Brian Chandler was sitting at a red light for southbound Mitchell Road at Roeding Road. While the light was red, a black sedan zipped past him in the number one lane. Officer Chandler activated his emergency lights and siren and began to catch up to Landavazo’s vehicle but he continued southbound on Mitchell Road.

The pursuit reached speeds in excess of 80 mph and ended when Landavazo attempted to make a right turn onto Central Avenue from westbound on Service Road and lost control and struck a wooden fence. The car came to rest in the backyard of a residence at the northwest corner while missing the home.

Landavazo ran from the crashed car, leaving behind three uninjured occupants, one of which was a minor. A police perimeter was set up to search for the driver, who was later apprehended near Blaker and Southwood by a Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputy.
