The Stanislaus District Attorney’s Office has been asked to charge a local man with petty theft after Ceres Police caught him stealing several metal industrial shelves from the back of the Walmart Supercenter.

At 11:34 p.m. Friday, Officer Matthew Myers was patrolling the Ceres Walmart Supercenter when he spotted a silver-colored Acura at the rear of the store with several metal industrial shelves loaded on the vehicle rooftop. The vehicle was leaving the parking lot as Officer Myers arrived. Officer Myers noticed a pallet outside the business with the same shelving on the pallet with the wrapping partially removed. Knowing Walmart was closed the officer stopped the vehicle at Don Pedro Road and Rose Avenue.

Driver Felix Arellano, 41, was detained and an investigation was conducted. It was confirmed with employees that the shelves Arellano had taken were stolen from the pallet outside of Walmart. He was arrested.
