A 28-year-old Turlock man was arrested Saturday evening after he tried to evade a Ceres Police officer who caught onto the fact that he was driving a stolen pickup which he later crashed.
At 10:56 p.m., Officer Charles Lord-Huff located a stolen white GMC Sonoma and began following it on northbound Mitchell Road. The officer awaited the arrival of additional patrol units while the Stanislaus County Air Unit responded and relayed that the vehicle pulled in front of a residence in the 400 block of Conejo Avenue. Officer Lord-Huff conducted a high-risk stop on driver Steven Frye, 28, of Turlock, who then accelerated off. The pursuit ended in the area of Tenaya Drive near Daly Avenue north of the Modesto Airport when the vehicle collided into an embankment. Frye bailed from the vehicle and ran away. With the assistance of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies, Frye was located at the Modesto Airport and taken into custody.
While searching the pickup, officers located a key ring with various shaved keys which are used to steal vehicles. Frye was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police in a vehicle, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and theft with two or more priors.
