A 45-year-old Modesto man with a history of a drunken driving conviction was arrested during a Thursday morning traffic stop in Ceres.
Citizens called at 1 a.m. to report a possible drunken driver at the intersection of Grand View and Belmont avenues. Officer Christian Diaz arrived and located a car being driven across the grass area of the apartment complex at 1625 Richland Avenue. Driver David Cornejo, 45, of Modesto was stopped and immediately the officer suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.
Cornejo failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested. A breath sample showed his blood alcohol content to be nearly three times the legal limit. Police learned that Cornejo’s license was suspended due to a prior DUI conviction. Cornejo was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of DUI and driving on a suspended license for DUI.
