Police are searching for two Latino men who robbed a man sitting in his car inside the Walmart parking lot and trying to get at a woman who called 9-1-1 about the crime.
The incident occurred at 9:12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25.
The 24-year-old Ceres man assaulted in the case showed up inside the store with blood all over him and asking for police to be called.
The victim told Officer Kiashira Ruiz that he had driven to Walmart with his mother and sat in the vehicle on the east side of the store. He said approximately three to five minutes had passed when he noticed two males acting suspicious. The males were walking by him and he could see that they had bandanas covering their faces. The males approached him on the driver's side of the vehicle and both were holding silver handguns. They pointed their guns at him and tapped on the glass, ordering him to "Open up, open up."
Fearing for his safety because they had guns, the victim opened the car door and that's when both males started hitting him several times on the head with their fist and the guns. One of the suspects barked, "Give me what you have." The victim handed over his wallet with his license, credit cards and approximately $20 inside. He was then struck several more times with guns and fists. One of the suspects grabbed victim and threw him onto the ground where he was struck one more time. One of the suspects told him to get up and run. The victim ran into the store and believed the subjects had taken his vehicle since they had his keys.
Officer Nieuwenhuis located a 48-year-old woman who stated she was parked inside her car in the area when she heard yelling coming from the vehicle which was parked two parking spaces north of hers. She saw a suspect striking another individual in the head with an unknown black object. While doing so the suspect was yelling, "You owe me and you better pay me." The woman quickly retrieved her cell phone to call 9-1-1. As soon as the display on her phone lit up she observed both suspects quickly approach her car. One suspect went to the passenger side and began hitting the front passenger side window with an unknown black metal object causing it to break. The other man approached the driver side and began to strike the front driver side window. The woman quickly reversed her vehicle and sped away from both suspects.
The suspects were described as Hispanic men between ages 25 to 28 years old, standing 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, and weighing 180 to 200 pounds. Both were wearing black hoodies, stripped checkered shorts and both having silver handguns. One suspect was wearing a red bandana and the other was wearing a blue one. Both were covering their faces except their eyes.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Ceres Police Detective Sgt. Vierra at 538-5672.
