Woman, 54, arrested on auto theft, weapons charges

A 54-year-old Modesto woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon, March 12 after a Ceres Police officer found her driving a stolen GMC cargo van.

At 2:21 p.m., Officer Juan Ramos was patrolling the area of Mitchell Road near Service Road when he watched a white GMC cargo van pulling into the parking lot of Walmart Supercenter. As the driver parked, Officer Ramos confirmed through dispatchers that the vehicle was reported as stolen. As additional officer arrived on scene, officers removed driver Tammy Morris, 54, of Modesto from the vehicle at gunpoint and arrested her.

During a search of the van, police located a loaded .22 caliber rifle which had the serial number removed.

Morris was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of auto theft, possession of a loaded firearm in public and altering/removing identifying marks on a firearm.
