Angelica Flores operated a coffee truck which would frequent pop-up events and special events. She sold it and is giving a storefront operation a try in downtown Ceres.
Bishop Coffee is officially opening for business today at 2934 Fourth Street.
Flores decided on the Fourth Street location from her acquaintances with a lot of people who work on the block. A friend at Flawless Hair Salon connected her with landlord Shane Parson who was eager to fill the vacancy left by a clothing store. She also is acquainted with Irene Ortiz, who is vice president of the Ceres Chamber of Commerce with whom she did pop-up events.
“It kind of just feels like home,” said Flores. “I see a lot of familiar faces.”
The shop specializes in espresso based lattes, hot and iced tea and energy drinks. She wants to team up with a friend who owns a bakery in Escalon to sell pastries.
“I want to be here for the community. Everybody seems excited to have something here, a shop they can come to and hang out.”
Flores picked the name of Bishop Coffee for sentimental reasons.
“I used to play chess with my grandpa and in his memory I decided to name it that,” she said.
She incorporated into the company logo on the window a chess bishop. The coffee shop also has table tops decorated as chess boards where customers can hang out.
“I’ll be getting board games in here. I have two kids so I don’t people with kids to feel like they can’t come in here.”
