AUBERRY – Janise Wilson, who retired in recent years from Ceres High School as a paraprofessional, lost her mountain home to a devastating fire the Monday before Thanksgiving. Making matters worse is that the couple did not have fire insurance.

Wilson and husband Dave had recently sold their home in the Greeley Hill area about a year and a half ago to move to Auberry northeast of Fresno.

The fire started in the garage after an explosion and the intense heat set the house on fire. The Wilsons and their granddaughter were able to get out in time. The fire took their cars, home and personal belongings.

Even though the home was less than a mile from the local fire station, the first units began arriving 40 minutes after the fire started.

The damage caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.

This tragedy comes amidst an already challenging time for the family. Two of their young grandchildren have a rare degenerative condition requiring round-the-clock care. They have been a cornerstone of support for their daughter’s family, giving all they can to help their family.

Wilson lived in Waterford during her employment with the Ceres Unified School District.

A GoFundMe account for the couple has been set up at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-dave-and-janise-wilson-rebuild-after-house-fire
