A 35-year-old Ceres man was killed late Wednesday as he was running across darkened Highway 99 in Turlock and was struck by multiple passing vehicles.

The victim was identified as Jonathan Gilbert McKnight.

The fatality occurred in the southbound lanes south of Taylor Road and was reported at approximately 11:55 p.m. Emergency personnel arrived on scene to find there was nothing they could do to save McKnight who was deceased in the slow lane.

The California Highway Patrol stated that the victim was running in a westbound direction when he was struck by an unknown vehicle and came to rest in the lanes of traffic. The CHP believes McKnight was struck by an undetermined number of vehicles following the initial impact. Apparently none of the drivers who hit the Ceres man stopped.

CHP investigators are looking for anyone with information about the crash to call Officer B. Mitchell at 209-545-7440.
