The Rotary Club of Ceres recognized two Ceres Unified School District students as a “Rotary Student of the Month” at the Dec. 13 meeting.

The two were Ceres High School senior Jasmine Diaz and Claire Thomason, an eighth-grader at Patricia Kay Beaver Leadership Magnet School.

Jasmine was selected for the honor due to her exceptional dedication, leadership, and kindness which positively impacts Ceres High students and staff on a daily basis.

Having earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.74, she is ranked in the top 16 percent of her class. Her academic achievement and hard work continue beyond the classroom as she is the 2024-25 Ceres High School Cereal yearbook editor.

Additionally, she participates in clubs and team sports. She has been on the cheerleading team for three years, and serves as captain this year.

Diaz has been on the stunt team for two years, since its inception.

She has also been in leadership for the past three years, is a member of BSU-Black Student Union, as well as the Social Media Coordinator for the Future Medical Professionals (FMP) Club at Ceres High. On Sundays she can regularly be found volunteering and supporting members at the front desk of Kaiser Medical Center in Modesto.

Jasmine is applying for admission to a number of colleges and universities with plans to major in nursing as she strives to become a nurse in the future.

“Jasmine’s academic achievements, participation in campus life activities, clubs and athletics, as well as volunteering in the community, embody the Rotary’s motto of ‘Service above Self,’” said club spokeswoman Mariana Sandoval.

Claire Thompson feted

Claire Thompson was singled out as a true leader who is honest, kind, helpful, hardworking, reliable and sees the best in people.

School officials say Claire is a phenomenal young lady with a passion for leadership, acting, academics and reading.
