Ceres truck driver, 21, involved in minor injury Madera school bus crash
Madera bus crash
A Ceres truck driver hit this GMC Terrain Thursday near Madera which then hit a school bus injuring two students.

A 21-year-old Ceres truck driver caused a crash Thursday morning involving a Madera school bus but fortunately no serious injuries occurred.

The three-vehicle crash on the rain-slickened rural road took place at approximately 7:18 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue 12 and Road 32 east of Madera.

Two students riding on the Golden Valley Unified School District bus, who are 16 and 18 were taken by ambulance to Valley Children’s Hospital with complaints of pain.

The incident occurred when the Ceres truck driver was westbound in a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer rig and came upon traffic stopped on Avenue 12. When he applied his brakes his rig began to skid and slide so he turned to the right in an effort to avoid hitting a stopped GMC Terrain, driven by a 22-year-old Madera woman. That action caused the left rear of the Ceres man’s trailer to swing around and crash into right rear of the GMC, pushing it into the eastbound lane of Avenue 12 where it struck the left side of the school bus, which had just turned onto eastbound Avenue 12 from Road 32.

The 48-year-old Madera woman driving the 1993 Thomas school bus and 27 of her 29 students on board were not injured.

All drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

The California Highway Patrol said that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The name of the Ceres truck driver was not available as of press time.
