JAMESTOWN - The 63-year-old Ceres man who was killed instantly in an August 9 head-on crash on Highway 120 west of Jamestown has been identified as Gilbert Joseph Sigala.

The identity of the victim was released late by the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department pending notification of the next of kin.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:25 a.m. when Sigala was driving a 2014 Buick sedan eastbound on Highway 120 east of La Grange Road. For an unknown reason, he drifted across the center line and went head-on into a westbound 2020 Hino tank truck driven by 67-year-old Erich Heinrichs of Turlock. The CHP estimated impact was at approximately 55 miles per hour.

Heinrichs sustained serious injuries as did the passenger in the Buick, Vicki Rasmussen, 66, of Ceres. Heinrichs was rushed by ambulance to Adventist Health Sonora while Rasmussen was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
