A big list of job responsibilities greeted Jessica Pulliam on her first day as the new city of Ceres Recreation Supervisor.
It was March 4 and the city was busy getting ready for the March 22 “Eggstravaganza” event at the Ceres Community Center. She drafted her husband to don the giant Easter bunny costume for hours of posing with the children while three of her four children helped pass out bags of candy at the door. Her children are aged aged 8, 12, 16 and 17 and the eldest, her high school senior daughter, collected some community volunteer hours.
“I’m really excited to just be able to dive into all of the events and the sports and getting to know all of the customers that we work with on a daily basis,” said Pulliam.
She replaces Katie Lemburg who left in January after serving two-and-a-half years.
Pulliam comes to Ceres from Merced where she served as program director for Central Valley Training Center, Inc. The agency is a licensed adult day program for adults with disabilities and behavioral issues. She helped with recreation and planned events for all of the three regions within the company.
Pulliam said she applied for the Ceres position because it was out of her norm.
“I was looking for something that would give me a little bit of a challenge and help me grow with the community and get to know the ins and outs of the recreation side of things,” said Pulliam.
The supervisor role is multi-faceted, assisting with setting up events, such as sports programs, Hoopsters, booking the fields for soccer and softball, the summer aquatics program, Ceres Street Faire, Concerts in the Park, National Night Out, Trunk-Or-Treat, Hot Air Balloon Festival.
“There’s a lot of things going on that I will be overseeing in my role.”
