To get kids thinking about ways to recycle at home and at school, the city of Ceres and Ceres Unified School District held their annual Recycling Poster Contest, with the help of awards.

A reception for the winners of the contest was held recently at the Argus/Endeavor High School multi-purpose room.

A total of 1,012 students at Ceres schools rose to the invitation to create colorful posters with original artwork depicting the need to recycle to help be good stewards of the planet.  Teachers picked their top five favorites which were then judged by members of city staff on the basis of creativity, design, artwork, and overall effectiveness of conveying the recycling theme.

“We have some talented student artists and there were some really impressive entries submitted,” said Toni Cordell, the city’s administrative analyst.

Cash prizes of $50 for first-place winners, $35 for second-place winners, $25 for third and $15 for honorable mention entrants were awarded.
