The city of Ceres, in partnership with Caltrans Clean California program, is offering Ceres residential customers free disposal of large household items at the city of Ceres Free Community Disposal Day.
On Saturday, Feb. 3 residents living within the Ceres city limits may drop off unwanted appliances, furniture, electronic waste, mattresses and other large items for free at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park, 3761 E. Hatch Road, Ceres, from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
Participants must bring their most recent utility bill and a photo ID to prove residency and gain access to the event. Only one truck load per utility bill and no vehicles larger than a pick-up truck will be allowed.
Hazardous waste items such as batteries, paint, solvents, fluorescent bulbs, etc. will not be accepted at the event. Other prohibited items include green waste (leaves, prunings, grass, brush, vegetation, etc.), concrete and demolition materials, and regular household trash (bagged garbage).
Caltrans reminds motorists to properly secure and tarp all cargo loads prior to driving. Transporting unsecured loads is unsafe, illegal and pollutes California’s roads and waterways. Loads that are not tied down/secured by tarps/nets or enclosed will not be accepted.
Caltrans’ tips for securing your load:
• Completely cover loads with tarps or cargo nets. Debris can escape from gaps.
• Remove loose material and trash before driving.
• Don’t overload; keep materials level with your truck bed.
• Put light items lower and tie large items to the vehicle for traffic safety.
