Trivia Hour Ceres
The city of Ceres is hosting an Aug. 2 Trivia Hour event for seniors 55 and older at the Ceres Community Center.

The city of Ceres Recreation Department is planning two fun events to involve senior citizens.

The first is the addition of a Trivia Hour on Friday, August 2. The event will be held at the Ceres Community Center, 2701 Fourth Street, at 12 noon to 1 p.m. and is for those 55 years or age or older.

The city is also planning to hold a Senior Citizens Prom Night event on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the center. The event, again for those 55 years of age or older and dressed formally, will include dinner served at 5 p.m. and a dance from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The city is asking participants to voluntarily chip in $5 to cover expenses and asking persons to sign up by Sept. 15.

The two programs are in addition to the senior lunch program for those 60 or older offered at the Community Center on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Meals are prepared by the United Samaritans Foundation in Turlock and transported to Ceres. The menu varies from day to day but includes such items like Italian Sausage and salad, chef salads, turkey burgers, turkey sandwiches, meatloaf and mashed potatoes and soups.

There is no cost for the meal but a box for the suggested donation of $3 per person is available. No eligible participant will be denied due to inability to pay. Guests under 60 are welcome but must pay the full cost of the meal which is currently $6.

Reservations at the Senior Information line at (209) 480-4508 are encouraged at least the day before to ensure an adequate number of meals will be available.

The lunch center opens at 11 a.m. for coffee and social time with lunch served from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Seniors are also welcome to play cards and watch TV in the Senior Lounge and participate in enrichment programs.
