City will advertise to fill Ceres Planning Commission vacancy
Jammu commissioner
Ruldip “R.J.” Jammu was not automatically reappointed to a new commission term on Monday. The council wants to see if others are interested in the position and apply for it too.

The city of Ceres invites residents who may be interested in serving on the Ceres Planning Commission to apply for a position opening up.

The term of Ruldip “R.J.” Jammu is expiring at the end of the year. He was appointed last year to fill a vacancy of Daniel Martinez who was elected to the council.

Community Development Director Christopher Hoem said Jammu wants to continue and he recommended that the council reappoint him. However, Hoem’s recommendation was not protested by Ceres resident John Warren who said the city should advertise for applicants from the general citizenry. Warren said past practice has called for the city to seek applicants rather than automatically reappoint incumbents.

As soon as Vice Mayor Bret Silveira motioned to reappoint Jammu, Councilman Daniel Martinez said he wants the city to reach out to see if others may be interested in serving. Councilwoman Rosalinda Vierra said she was concerned about Jammu’s absences.

Councilman James Casey said the city should open up the process to everybody.

Mayor Javier Lopez, who cited little interest last year and his confidence in Jammu, seconded the motion to reappoint him. The motion died when Casey, Vierra and Martinez voted no.
