Commission to review list of capital improvement projects
Ceres capital list
This list details the proposed capital improvement projects to be considered by city leaders.

Members of the Ceres Planning Commission were supposed to review a long list of the city’s proposed capital improvement projects on Monday, June 19 and find them to be consistent with the Ceres General Plan. But for a lack of a quorum the meeting did not take place.

The matter should be taken up in a July meeting when City Engineer Kevin Waugh presents an overview of the projects before he can take it to the Ceres City Council which will have to determine funding sources for the 2023/24 fiscal year.

The Capital Improvement Program is a capital planning and management program to assist in identifying projects and infrastructure improvements needed to address the current needs, as well as prepare the City for future growth and provision of services. The intent of this effort is to ensure that appropriate projects are planned, funded, and developed in a timely way to shape Ceres into a comfortable, livable community as it continues to grow.

The City Council last updated the CIP project list in June 2021 and included new projects as part of the adoption of the 2021-22 fiscal year budget. Due to staffing issues, the CIP list for FY 22/23 was not presented.

The list of projects is included in the graphic accompanying this article.

The projects total $23.1 million and include such things as pavement resurfacing, beautification of Smyrna Park, new water mains, a well for Guillermo Ochoa Park, infrastructure master plan studies, citywide concrete repairs and ADA ramp installations and work needed to make way for the new Service / Mitchell / Highway 99 interchange.
