For the first time since Paul Caruso, a Ceres resident is chairman of the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.
Channce Condit, who represents District 5, was selected chairman for 2023 by his peers at the Jan. 10 meeting. He succeeds Terry Withrow as chairman. Supervisor Mani Grewal was selected as vice-chairman.
“While the county is doing well many areas of District 5 have been left behind for years,” said Condit. “As chairman of the Board of Supervisors, I will continue to work to make sure they have a voice in our local government. I thank my colleagues for the confidence and support as chairman of the board and look forward to the work ahead.”
Caruso served as chairman of the Board of Supervisors during his 1991 to 2005 tenure. Other Ceres residents who have served on the board include Sal Cannella and Channce’s grandfather, Gary Condit.
Condit’s political career began with his election to the Ceres City Council in an uncontested November 2018 race. Midway through his four-year term he decided to run for county supervisor and was elected in 2020, defeating Mike Kline in the primary and Tom Hallinan in the general election.
Other members of the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors are Vito Chiesa of Hughson, who represents District 2; Terry Withrow of Modesto who represents District 3; and Buck Condit who represents District 1.
