The Ceres City Council awarded a construction contract to Rolfe Construction of Atwater to build the infrastructure for the watering of Ochoa Park.

Specifically the $289,298 contract is to modify Well 38 at the northwest corner of Ochoa Park to discharge untreated water to the Ceres Main Canal on Hatch Road for the water offset and to irrigate the newly constructed park.

Designing and building a new irrigation well would have been too costly for the city, said Public Works Director Sam Royal. City staff members designed the modifications.

The water offset is being required because of the surface water project coming online this month. The Stanislaus Regional Water Authority Project (SRWA) is delivering treated surface water to Ceres but the city is required to discharge water into irrigation canals in the spring 2024 as an offset to the use of river water.

The city has ordered Ochoa Park to be completed with site grading, utilities, pavement, sidewalks, picnic tables, basketball courts, shade structures, grass, trees and shrubs.
