If an individual councilmember comes up with an idea or proposal, it doesn’t make it to the discussion stage unless a majority wants to take it up.
Last week four of “council referrals” were approved which means they will be appearing on an upcoming agenda.
The Ceres City Council agreed to consider the following:
• Making the intersection of Roeding Road and Ninth Street a four-way stop, an idea brought forth by Vice Mayor Bret Silveira on Sept. 11. Visual obstructions were cited as the reason. City Engineer Kevin Waugh said a warrant study will be done on that intersection as well as the intersection of Third and North streets brought up by Councilman Daniel Martinez.
• The installation of surveillance cameras at Independence Park due to an increased incidence of homeless encampments and criminal activity. Councilwoman Rosalinda Vierra asked for the cameras at the park, which is next to an apartment complex.
• Holding one annual citywide yard sale. Vierra said the proposal was suggested by a Ceres resident who also wanted the ability to hold more than two garage sales at her house during the year. She also wondered if the city could post a map like Turlock showing permitted garage sales to curb the number of illegal signs being posted.
• Creating a Downtown Streets Team to combat homeless persons causing public nuisances.
