A two-alarm fire resulted in heavy damage to a two-story home in the 2300 block of Glasgow Drive Monday evening, displacing the family living there.
The fire was reported at 7:27 p.m. with five fire engines and two battalion fire chiefs from Modesto Fire Department responding. When they arrived on scene they found heavy flames roaring out of the attached garage which threatened a neighboring home. Firefighters mounted an aggressive attack on the fire which unfortunately extended into the first and second floor of the home and into the attic. A second alarm was called with two more engines arriving.
Two vehicles parked in the garage were badly damaged.
Crews extinguished the fire and spent the next several hours making sure that no remaining pockets of fire remained and assisting the family to salvage property from the inside of the house.
The fire investigation unit was on scene to determine what caused the blaze.
Hours later, Modesto firefighters were in Ceres again battling another working structure fire. The fire was reported at 4:12 a.m. early yesterday morning, in the 2500 block of Don Pedro Road. Four engines arrived to extinguish flames coming from an outbuilding on the property with no threats to any neighboring structures. The fire was extinguished and authorities are trying to determine the cause.
