A 40-year-old Ceres man and his son were killed in a Sunday morning head-on crash in Merced County allegedly caused by a drunken driver.
Killed were Adrian Reyes and his 13-year-old son Noah Reyes.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place at approximately 12:19 a.m. on Highway 165 south of Turner Road in the Hilmar area.
Reyes was driving his 2016 Honda Accord when an oncoming 2014 BMW SUV swerved into his lane on a curve at a high rate of speed. The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of the Reyeses and caused major injuries to the BMW driver, Melissa Rosales, 20, of Los Banos. She was rushed to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto where she remains hospitalized.
According to the CHP, all three occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash but the impact was especially destructive to the Honda Accord and its occupants.
Rosales is being arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
The crash remains under investigation.
