A 56-year-old Keyes man died Monday afternoon in a solo crash on S. Washington Road north of Lucinda Avenue in east Keyes.

The victim was identified as Roy Bilyeu, 56, of Keyes, by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:56 p.m. The California Highway Patrol reported that Bilyeu was northbound on Washington and for an unknown reason allowed his 2003 Chevy pickup to drift off the east side of the roadway and into an orchard where it collided with several almond trees. When emergency personnel arrived Bilyeu was deceased. The exact cause of his death was yet to be determined.

The CHP said it is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to this collision and investigators are also still trying to determine if the victim was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
