The quick actions of Ceres Police officers helped to prevent the drowning death of a toddler Thursday evening.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. a two-year-old boy wandered into a backyard pool in the 3600 block of Chandra Court in Ceres when he was later discovered.

Modesto Fire Department Engine 15 was the first on scene and found police had already initiated CPR on the boy. First-responders worked on the child for about 15 minutes until his heart began beating again and he breathed on his own.

The child was then taken to an awaiting air ambulance that landed at Sinclair Elementary School and flown to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
