A fire inflicted heavy damage to the house at 1542 block of Running Lane midday Wednesday and displaced the four occupants living there.

The fire was reported at 11:58 a.m. and when the first engine company arrived there was heavy smoke pouring from the back of the single-story home which is on the corner of Glasgow Drive and Running Lane. Modesto firefighters immediately went into the offensive mode to battle the blaze. Four additional fire engines and the quint ladder truck were dispatched to the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting four occupants find temporary shelter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
