Modesto Fire Department firefighters battled a Sunday evening blaze that damaged a home in the 1400 block of Cherise Court in southwest Ceres.
It was the second fire reported on Sunday in Ceres.
The Cherise Court fire was reported at 9:15 p.m. When firefighters arrived they found heavy fire coming out of the garage and extending into the attached residence. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and limit the damage to the interior of the residence. They remained on scene to make sure the fire didn’t reignite and to assist with salvage of the interior for the occupants.
The Stanislaus County fire investigator is conducting an investigation as to the cause and origin of the fire.
Earlier Sunday afternoon – at 3:36 p.m. – firefighters at the downtown station quickly responded to a report that the restroom at Whitmore Park across the street was on fire. Apparently someone had ignited a fire in the restroom trash container but it was quickly extinguished with no damage to the interior of the building.
