At least two persons were hurt when an alleged drunken driver from Oakdale slammed into their mini-van and forced it to collide with a tractor-trailer rig at the intersection of Whitmore Avenue and Faith Home Road on Friday.
The 1 p.m. crash was blamed on Gerardo Cardoso Perez, 23, of Oakdale who was driving a white 1999 Isuzu northbound on Faith Home Road and rear-ended a northbound gray Dodge Caravan that was stopped for the stop sign at Whitmore. The crash caused the mini-van to strike rear of a Mac tractor that was pulling two trailers through the intersection as it was going from eastbound Whitmore onto northbound Faith Home. The van struck the diesel tank on the passenger side, causing the tractor to be engulfed with flames.
"The whole thing lit on fire," said Lt. Brent Smith.
City workers assisted in getting the victims out of their vehicles, said Smith.
Perez was taken to Doctors Medical Center and then later booked on charges of felony driving under the influence.
A female inside the Dodge Caravan also sustained injuries but there were no details on her condition.
