Westport School’s 75th anniversary to be celebrated
Westport School from street
Westport School will be celebrated on Sept. 16.

A celebratory dinner will mark Westport Elementary School’s 75th anniversary next month.

The anniversary/alumni event is set for Saturday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. and will include a chicken dinner, an optional tour of the Westport campus, a silent auction, and speeches by people in the Westport community.

Initially the rural district of Westport was serviced by Jones School, which was formed as a district in May 1868 with 26 boys and 18 girls. The first one-room Jones School was located across Carpenter Road from where the current Westport School is located. It later moved to a site on W. Grayson Road northeast of the present Westport School.

Westport was once its own district until a merger with Ceres school district in 1965. To ensure Westport has adequate representation on the Ceres Unified School District Board of Trustees, one member slot of the seven is guaranteed. That current representative is Valli Wigt.

All are welcome. Tickets are $25 per person and those going are asked to RSVP by August 26 at http://gg.gg/Westport75
