Gary M. Condit, the youngest brother of Stanislaus County Supervisor Channce Condit, has been appointed to the Ceres Planning Commission.
The appointment was made Monday evening by the Ceres City Council, effectively removing Commissioner Ruldip “R.J.” Jammu, who applied to retain his seat for a four-year term. Jammu was appointed in 2022 to fill a vacancy of Daniel Martinez who was elected to the council. Another applicant was Kelly Cerny.
Condit is a 2019 graduate of Ceres High School who earned his associate degree in Administration of Justice from Modesto Junior College in 2021. He has also dabbled in producing videos for the city and documentaries on local politicians.
When asked what feels is are his most important qualifications for appointment, Condit answered: “my love and dedication for Ceres. This is where I grew up, bought my first home and plan to raise my children. I love my community. I also bring a different perspective to the commission by wanting to see Ceres grow into the future.”
Jammu is a PG&E project manager for new construction projects.
Condit will assume his new position when the commission meets next in January.
He was not present at Monday's meeting.
The three applicants were interviewed Monday by a committee of Mayor Javier Lopez, Councilman Daniel Martinez and Community Development Director Christopher Hoem.
“We decided after the interviewing process and after grading the responses to the questions, to go with the third applicant, Mr. Condit,” said Councilman Martinez.
The council voted 5-0 to ratify the appointment.
Condit is the son of Chad and Helen Condit and grandson of former Congressman Gary A. Condit. Another older brother, Couper Condit was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2015, and elected to the Ceres City Council in 2020 but resigned 10 months into his term with no explanation.
