The city of Ceres mayoral election will take place on Nov. 5.

Incumbent Javier Lopez will have two challengers, including Councilwoman Rosalinda Vierra and life-long Ceres resident Gary M. Condit.

Condit, who was appointed to the Ceres Planning Commission in December of 2023, announced his plans to run for mayor of Ceres Monday evening via Facebook.

"The City of Ceres holds a special place in my heart and life," he stated. "This community has shaped who I am today; it’s where I met my wonderful wife and where we chose to start our family. Ceres is more than just a city to us; it’s a thriving community built on the strong foundations of local businesses, outstanding schools, and a shared sense of togetherness.

However, in recent years, we've witnessed troubling declines in areas critical to our city's well-being. Our Ceres Police Department and Dispatch Center have faced understaffing challenges which compromise public safety, City Hall has been mired in financial mismanagement, with budgetary freezes, and irresponsible spending, and we need to enhance our city’s appearance and eliminate illegal dumping.

As your next Mayor, I am committed to bringing fresh and responsible leadership to City Hall. I believe that local government should work for its residents, not against them. My promise to you is simple: I will always be accessible, responsive, and genuinely attuned to the needs of the community. I pledge to listen more than I speak, ensuring that every decision reflects the concerns of our residents."

Condit is the son of Chad and Helen Condit, grandson of former Congressman Gary A. Condit, and youngest brother of Stanislaus County Supervisor Channce Condit.

Another older brother, Couper Condit was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2015, and elected to the Ceres City Council in 2020 but resigned 10 months into his term with no explanation.

Condit is employed by the Sheriff's Office as an analyst. He manages community relations, media, and develops crisis communication strategies during critical incidents.

Condit also manages a public relations and marketing business.

He's dabbled in producing videos for the city and documentaries on local politicians.

In addition to being a member of Love Ceres, a faith-based effort designed to carry out community service projects, Condit previously coached with the Hoopsters co-ed youth basketball league and provided instruction during the River Oaks Junior Golf Program.

Condit graduated from Ceres High School in 2019.

He earned his associate degree in Administration of Justice from Modesto Junior College in 2021 and is currently working towards his bachelor's degree in business marketing.
