Born Oc. 24, 1922 in Ceres, Betty was the second daughter of Willard and Anna Johnson. As a young person she was active in the First Baptist of Ceres. She graduated from Ceres High School in 1940. Following high school she lived with her sister, Pearl, in Berkeley and attended Armstrong Business College. She worked for the Modesto Irrigation District and in 1943 married Army Air Corps Lieutenant Paul Sullivan. They had a child, Dennis, while living in Modesto. In 1955 they moved to New Jersey. Betty worked as a volunteer coordinator at a hospital, then decided she preferred being a volunteer to coordinating others. Herself a cancer survivor, she chose to volunteer in an oncology unit on an everyday basis, and was recognized by the New Jersey Cancer Society for her extraordinary dedication.

After Paul's death, she moved back to Modesto in 1997. She spent 11 wonderful years with her aunt Agnes Salter, her sister Pearl, her wonderful friends in the Bearden and Lampley families. In 2008 Mrs. Sullivan moved to Ohio to be near her son Dennis, her daughter-in-law Helen, and her grandson Paul Andrew.
