A visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Allen Mortuary for Edith Catheryn Thompson, 95, of Denair. She died on August 1, 2010 at her home with her family at her side.

A graveside service will be at Turlock Memorial Park at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6. Also, a celebration of life will be at Valley Christian Center in Ceres at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Born May 1915 in Jay, Okla., to Joseph and Pearl Harrington, Edith moved to the area in 1943. She lived in Stanislaus County where she farmed with her husband of 54 years until retirement. Since 2000, Mrs. Thompson has lived with her children. She especially loved childred and the elderly. Edith was a foster mother to six children and was a CNA who worked with the elderly for many years. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Valley Christian Center in Ceres. She was actively involved in women's ministry, taught Sunday School and served on a mission trip to Guyana.

She leaves behind her children, Zella Coleman and Maxine Moore, both of Turlock, Florine Sterling and Wilma Bartlett, both of Denair, and Elsa Riddle of Newman; and 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Roy Thompson, son Wilburn Thompson, brothers Verl Herrington and Floyd Harrington and sister Myrtle Payton.
