A service was held Friday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Lawrence "Larry" Frederick Junker, 80, of Hughson. He died July 18, 2008 at his house.
Born April 12, 1928, Mr. Junker was a native of Porterville, born to Elmer and Frances Junker. His family moved to Modesto where he graduated from Modesto High School in 1946. While at high school Larry played on the football team that won the Sac-Joaquin football championships in1945 and 1946. Upon graduating from high school he joined the Navy and after training in San Diego was sent to Oak Knoll Naval Hospital as a Navy Corpsman for two years. In 1948 he married Laura Mae Starn and began his studies at Modesto Junior College and graduated in 1950. He started farming peaches in Hughson that same year and purchased more land to grow both peaches and almonds. In 1960 he started work with Niagara Chemical, a division of FMC as a licensed pest control advisor for the next 25 years. Larry was very active in the Hughson community and was president of the Youth Center, PTA and Hughson Rotary Club. He was an active member of the Hughson First Baptist Church and Turlock Covenant Church.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Laura Mae Junker of Hughson; his children, Diana Morrow, Janice McKinney and Douglas Junker; two sisters, Pat Adams and Lorraine Browning; and two grandchildren, Kelda McKinney and Eric McKinney.
