Michael Kevin Lane

Sept. 17, 1953 – Feb. 19, 2025

Michael Kevin Lane passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family on February 19, 2025 at the age of 71 after a yearlong battle with cancer.

He was born in Oakland on September 17, 1953, and raised in Ceres.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Janice; his daughter, Jill (Ben); his son, Kevin (Erica); his grandson Sam; his granddaughter Gwendolyn; his mother, Carolyn Sherman; his brother, Mitch; his sister, Lisa Bean; and eight nieces and nephews.

Mike was a scratch golfer at an early age. He won the 1970 Stanislaus County Golf Championship at the age of 17. In 1992 he was inducted into the Modesto Junior College Hall of Fame for his golfing achievements in 1971-73 (he led the Pirates to league and regional championships and was named MVP in conference). He was a member of Turlock Golf & CC for 30 years and won many golfing tournaments in the Central Valley.

In 1980 Mike began what would be a 30-year career at AT&T, where he was a repair technician. A proud CWA member, he retired in 2010.

In retirement, he continued to play golf, travel, fish with his brother Mitch, take regular trips to Black Oak Casino with his best friend Janice, and even started playing the guitar.

Although Mike was frequently surrounded by friends, he was at his happiest hosting a barbecue at his house surrounded by family. In recent years he was able to celebrate the weddings of his daughter Jill and son Kevin and not even the pandemic could keep him away from the births of his beloved grandchildren Sam and Gigi.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

The Celebration of Life will be held this Sunday, March 23rd, at 1 p.m. at the Turlock Country Club, 10532 Golf Link Road, Turlock, CA 95380.
