Michael Ray Scudder, 59 of Ceres passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 6, 2021 in Clarksville, Tenn., where he had recently moved.
Mike was born on June 28, 1962 in Ceres to Jim and Colleen Scudder. Mike grew up in the Ceres community and graduated from Ceres High School Class of 1980. Shortly after high school Mike married Julie Scudder and had two children, Greg and Casey. Mike worked in the paint industry for over 37 years where he was highly valued and respected for his knowledge.
Mike was known for his gift of gab through which he made many lifelong friends. He always had hunting or fishing stories to share or news of the latest happenings around town.
Mike was an avid sportsman. He loved camping, duck hunting, deer hunting and fishing and he instilled the love of the outdoors into his children. But Mike’s greatest love was supporting his son Greg and daughter Casey. Whether it was coaching their baseball or softball teams, attending football games or going to watch his son sing country music, he never missed anything.
In January 2019 Mike married Janet Beckett-Scudder and was able to enjoy the last few years of his life with her. They enjoyed going to church together and taking trips to Pismo Beach.
Later in life Mike’s greatest enjoyment was being “Papa” to Clint and Caden Gaede. In May 2021 he moved to Tennessee to be closer to them. He looked forward to coaching them in baseball and taking them camping and fishing and being a big part of their lives. Mike was blessed to have spent the last few months of his life being with them every day.
Mike is survived by son Greg Scudder (Kelly); daughter Casey Gaede (Colton), grandsons Clint Gaede and Caden Gaede; and his sister, Brenda Scudder-Herbert (Harry). He is also survived by his late wife’s children, Phillip Beckett (Stephanie), Kenneth Beckett (Emily) and grandchildren Emma, Phoebe, Hannah, Levi and Vanessa Beckett.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife Janet Beckett-Scudder, parents Jimmie Scudder and Peggy Colleen Scudder and brother Samuel Booth.
A celebration of life will be held in Ceres, CA at a later date.
