A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Nora Virginia Hardwick, 81, of Ceres. She died Sept. 19, 2008.
Visitation will be today at the chapel until the time of the service.
Burial will take place at Ceres Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hardwick was born Feb. 27, 1927 in Greenville, Mo., as the fifth of nine children and the first of three sets of twins. She met her husband, George Carl Hardwick, and married on Oct. 8, 1946 in Troy, Kan. They moved to Ceres in May 1953, and purchased a home in 1955 in the Maro Village Homes. She lived there for the past 53 years. She was able to enjoy the company of her twin sister, Flora Stane, who lived next door to her. Mrs. Hardwick worked for CVC General Foods for many years until she retired to be a homemaker and enjoy her family. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, crocheting, and gardening. Mrs. Hardwick was a member of the Mitchell Road Baptish Church. As a member of the now defunct Women's Police Auxiliary of Ceres, she helped to raise funds for the Ceres High swimming pool, uniforms for the Ceres police reserve officers, and many social events.
She leaves behind her children, George E. Hardwick of Modesto and Edith N. Monks of Turlock; her sister, Flora Stane of Ceres; two brothers, Henry Gibbons of Tarkio, Mo., and Jack Gibbons of Platt City, Mo.; and nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Don G. Hardwick, husband George Hardwick, parents, Harvey and Bessie Gibbons, sister Agnes Gibbons Hale, and brothers Kenneth Gibbons, Charlie Gibbons, Joe Gibbons and Gene Gibbons.
