Ruby D. Hinkley
Services were held for Ruby Delila Hinkley, 91, of Modesto. She died July 31, 2011.
Born Dec. 24, 1919 in Toronto, Canada, to Jake and Elizabeth Gloeckler, Ruby immigrated to the U.S. where Ruby graduated from Hughson High School. She met and eventually married Stanley Hinkley in 1941. They settled in Modesto in 1951, where he started his optometric practice. Ruby served in numerous leadership positions in such organizations as the Optometric Women's Auxiliary, Downey High School Band Parents Club, Lioness Club and PTAs from John Muir, LaLoma, and Downey schools. Several years ago she was honored to be named "Woman of the Year" by the Soroptomist club. Mrs. Hinkley enjoyed traveling and quilting and was a member of a local quilting club.
She leaves behind two children, Bruce Hinkley and Marsha Hinkley Conwell, of San Jose; her brother, Cliff Gloeckler; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Stan, twin sister Ruth Starn, brothers Jim and Homer Gloeckler.
